VISION

The Hop Growers of New York (HGNY) Wet Hop Festival is the pinnacle celebration of the connection between New York Hop Growers and Brewers, and the largest Wet Hop Festival outside of the Pacific Northwest. This  grassroots movement represents the core of what HGNY is doing to bolster the New York hop growing industry, and create a sustainable and profitable way forward for hop growers in New York. This event connects Hop Growers to Brewers and celebrates the fact that New York is one of only a few states in which hops can be grown at a commercial level with top quality production. Last year’s inaugural festival was held at Indian ladder Farms. This year with the help of Rusty Nickel Brewing in Buffalo,  Torch & Crown Brewing in Manhattan,Indian Ladder Farms and the Western New York Brewers Guild the event will be  statewide!  Thereby bringing even the brewers in our state closer together through the celebration of New York hops. This event comes at a time when the brewing and hops industry is tirelessly working  to become even more relevant in the community and the communities in which we live. This event supports the further strengthening of all points of hops and beer supply chain. From the best practices of growers, to the connection with hop distributors,  and the advent of experimenting with new or underutilized varieties, and even public hop varieties, possibly forgotten. 

First and foremost this event is based on celebration and inclusivity. However there is also a people's choice competition.  In 2023, Crooked Creek Hops donated a beautifully glass blown hop that totals about 15 pounds and is a beautiful work of art. The winning brewery of the people’s choice will be able to hold this glass at their home tap room or chosen facility until next year, when the hop is passed on to the new winner. At each event, attendees will be given a ballot and a small tasting glass so that they can enjoy as many beers as possible, safely and responsibly.

In a world where we are constantly bringing new generations into agriculture, we believe that this event stands as a great way to celebrate the ever evolving agricultural industry. The event hosts farmers that have farmed lands of New York for up to six generations. 

So come and celebrate in this resurgence of the New York hop industry as it once was before prohibition when New York was the largest growing region in the world.
